MGR Memorial

MGR Memorial is a memorial in Chennai, dedicated to the legendary Tamil actor and former chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu, India.The memorial is maintained by the MGR Memorial Charitable Trust and has free entry for all.

MGR Memorial House is located in T.Nagar, chennai and was the official residence of Dr.MGR for more than two decades in the twentieth century.MGR Memorial Trust was established as per Dr.MGR’s wishes to establish and maintain a memorial at 27, Arcot Mudali Street , Chennai (Dr.M.G.R’s Office), containing a vast collection of books and various articles and awards received by Dr.M.G.R, during his lifetime from various organisations and people. The trust was also established to maintain a free home for the poor speech and hearing impaired in the Ramavaram Gardens (Where Late Dr.MGR was residing).

Dr.MGR’s office at T.Nagar is located at the first floor of MGR Memorial, which is adorned with all his belongings and personal effects. The exhibits in the room includes swords, spears, heavy wooden clubs, his plate, tumbler, telephone instrument, his shirts, the medals won by him, television, the books read by him, camera, trolley & the cloth bandage that was tied on him when he was shot by another co-actor M.R.Radha.

MGR Memorial also holds memoirs like photographs from all his popular Tamil films, letters received by him during his tenure as an actor and a Chief minister, his MLA identification card, his famous cap and dark glasses, pen, the ‘Bharat Ratna’ medal and the doctorate degree certificate. Overall MGR Memorial will be a big treat for his huge number of fans in South India, especially Tamil Nadu.
