Kodaikanal Lake, is the most popular tourist attraction in kodai. This artificial lake is located at about 0.5 km (0.3 miles) from the Kodai bus stand, and it is roughly star-shaped spanning across 45 hectares (60 acres). The Kodaikanal lake was built in 1863 and is now one of Kodaikanal’s most popular geographic landmarks.

Tourists visiting Kodaikanal lake can hire Rowboats and pedalo at the Kodaikanal Boat Club.The tourists can avail boat services by T.T.D.C boats, Kodai boats, and Carlton boats. Annual boat pageant is held in May every year as a part of Summer.

The tourists can even enjoy horse rides and bicycle rides by hiring horses and bicycles, besides the lake for short periods. The 5 kilometers pathway along the periphery of kodai lake is a favourite place to walk for both the localites and the visiting tourists.

Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake, also known as Kodai Lake was built by Sir Vere Hentry Levinge, Collector of Madurai, during the British rule.The lake is star-shaped, centrally located in the town of Kodaikanal and is surrounded by lush green hills of the northwestern Palani Hills range, which is the main watershed for the lake.

An earthen dam was constructed to create the lake in a marshy where three streams flowed. The lake catchment experiences an average annual rainfall of 1650 mm.The out flow from the Lake forms the waterfall of 180 foot, called the Silver Cascade, 8 km downstream of the lake outlet.
